Rules and conditions - Character Design

Some of the rules are as follow:

  • Participants for character design category must enter the competition as individual. No teams allowed.
  • For participants of age 12-18 and studying in Secondary School in Singapore, they can enter the "Secondary: Character design".
  • For participants of age 17-30 and not currently studying in any Secondary School, they can choose to participate under "Open - Traditional character design" or "Open - Digital character design"
  • In Secondary: Character design category, participants can create the artwork using traditional and/or digital medium.
  • In traditional character design category, participants can only create the artwork using traditional medium (eg. ink, water colour or pencil except charcoal)
  • In digital character design category, the artwork can be illustated wholly or partially using computer program (Adobe photoshop, illustrator, etc).
  • Any artwork that has been altered by computer program will be classified as digital character design.
  • The artwork must be in A3 size. For digital category, participants are advised to create their artwork in 300 dpi.
  • For both traditional and digital category, the artwork will be graded based on the hardcopy

Things to submit

Besides the hardcopy artwork, particpants are also required to submit the following:

  • Short summary - A short paragraph of not more than 150 words introducing your chosen festival and the relevance of it to the theme.

  • Work process in CD or DVD (digital category only) - Series of pictures taken throughout the process of your drawing to proof the originality of the work. For example, some pictures of the process of sketching and some pictures while the artwork is being coloured. The CD or DVD should also contain the final artwork file.
